Rogê – Curyman (Diamond West Records, 2023)
Rogê, a highly talented guitarist and singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles, has been breathing new life into samba music with his recent work titled “Curyman.” Indeed, Rogê masterfully intertwines deeply rooted samba with various musical influences, including chamber music, electronica, jazz, funk, and Brazilian Popular Music (MPB).
“Curyman,” released on March 3, 2023, was produced by Thomas Brenneck of Menahan Street Band fame, known for working with big names like Mark Ronson, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé.
Rogê and Brenneck demoed an album’s worth of songs on their first night working together, and Brenneck was impressed with Rogê’s charisma and emotion in his music. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and Rio de Janeiro with string arrangements by Arthur Verocai and features contributions from Chester Hansen, Molly Lewis, and Victor Axelrod.
Rogê has been on the cusp of international recognition since his 2020 release with Seu Jorge, and recently performed in the U.S. with The Budos Band and in Brazil with Jack Johnson.
