New Regency Orchestra - Mambo Rama

‘Mambo Rama’, the debut single by New Regency Orchestra

Mambo Rama‘ (Total Refreshment Records) is the debut single by London-based New Regency Orchestra, an ensemble inspired by New York’s dynamic collision of jazz and Latin music from the 1950s to the 1970s. ‘Mambo Rama‘ was originally composed and recorded by timbales maestro Tito Puente in 1952 in New York City.

The song has been re-recorded under Eliane Correa’s direction with an eight-piece rhythm section and a storming twelve-piece horn section including Rosie Turton, Tamar Osborn (Collocutor) & Nick Walters (Ruby Rushton, Riot Jazz) alongside Ernesto Marichales (Waaju, Jordan Rakei), Flavio Correa, and Jimmy Martinez.

The alternate version of ‘Mambo Rama’ imagined by Lex Blondin features Momoko Watanabe Gill (Tirzah, Coby Sey, An Alien Called Harmony) and Alex Burke (Forest Law, Esa, Haha Sounds) with contributions from Capitol K and Kissu.

The ensemble will celebrate the release playing a show at London’s Colour Factory on 16 December accompanied by DJ sets from Tim Garcia, Sofia Bastos, Lex Blondin, the Bonita Bonita crew aka Desta, Bushbby & Alma.
