The Mystical and Majestic Sound of Smorodina Reka

Smorodina Reka – Foreshadowing (2021)

Smorodina Reka is a mesmerizing new act from Moscow, Russia. The group performs a new form of progressive folk music rooted in the ancient traditions of Russia and Scandinavia.

On “Foreshadowing” you’ll hear a masterfully constructed mix of Russian folk, Nordic mysticism, ethereal vocals and majestic choirs, classical guitar influences, beautiful and splendid orchestrations and occasional outbursts of ominous heavy electric guitars. The band’s sound has a strong connection to the sound and feel of Norwegian band Wardruna.

The lineup includes Alexandra Sidorova on lead vocals; Olga Zaboronok and Alexandra Zaipold on backing vocals; Alexey Vinogradov on guitars; Andrey Mirny on guitars; and Vladimir Nechaev on drums.

  1. Unfortunately, on their Foreshadowing album which I purchased several years ago on iTunes, tracks 2 and 4 cut off, mid-phrase, a little over a minute into the songs. I would really like to hear the rest of those songs, which had interesting introductions.
