Legendary Brazilian samba and jazz vocalist Elza Soares passed away on January 20, 2022. She had a long career, that spanned decades, performing samba, jazz and other musical genres. Notably, she performed at the opening of the 2016 Olympics in Rio and was also well known in Brazil for her relationship with football (soccer) star Garrincha.
Elza Soares was still active in recent years, recording critically acclaimed new albums such as The Woman at the End of the World (2016), Deus é Mulher (2018) and Planeta Fome (2019).
