Return to Gospel Organ Roots

Cory Henry – The Revival (Ground UP Music, 2016)

Cory Henry is well known as one of the great keyboardists of the funk and fusion collective Snarky Puppy. On The Revival, Henry goes back to his roots as an organist. He masterfully uses the highly recognizable Hammond B3 organ, popular with jazz, blues and rock musicians.

Although he has two guests, most of the album is solo organ, rooted in Afro-American gospel and jazz traditions as well as a pop song by The Beatles. The Revival was recorded live at The Great Temple of Praise in Brooklyn, New York. The album is available as a double disc with an audio CD and a DVD with the video recording of the concert.

Lineup: Cory Henry on Hammond B3 organ; James Williams on drums; and Jeffrey White on vocals.
