Remarkable encounter of Raw Electric guitar and Taranta

Justin Adams & Mauro Durante – Still Moving (Ponderosa Music, 2021)

Justin Adams and Mauro Durante, two musicians from diverse backgrounds, have recorded a fantastic album where desert blues and rock meet the feverish and trance-like southern Italian taranta rhythms.

British guitarist and singer-songwriter Justin Adams is well known in the world music scene for his collaborations with Juldeh Camara and also as producer of Tinariwen and Rachid Taha albums. Meanwhile, Mauro Durante, from Puglia, is the violinist and percussionist of acclaimed Italian ensemble Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino. Both artists met in Italy at the Notte della Taranta.

Throughout the album, the listener is treated to a set that combines captivating tranquil songs with hot-blooded fiery tracks where you will find Tuareg-style blues guitar interweaved with Mauro’s violin and frame drums.

Still Moving presents two vocal musical styles as well. Justin sings in English in a warm blues style. On the other hand, Mauro Durante uses Italian with a powerful, passionate delivery.
