World Music Christmas, Solstice and Holiday Videos and Online Events

Several musical videos that celebrate Christmas, Solstice and other celebrations have been released in recent weeks. Additionally, various online musical events will be taking place this week coinciding with the Christmas season.

Kíla

Celebrated Irish band Kila will be streaming a live concert online from Whelans on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020 at 9:00 p.m. (21:00) Irish time (GMT) on Whelan’s YouTube Channel – https://www.youtube.com/whelanslivedublin.

Megan Constantin and Kelli Jones

Megan Constantin and Kelli Jones (of T’Monde) have released the Cajun version of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” – “Je reviens chez nous pour Chrismeusse.”

Dagadana feat. Alena Kadanova

Polish-Ukrainian group Dagadana and Belarusian singer Alena Kadanova have released the music video “Na Zdrowie”, which was specially commissioned by the Ukrainian Spring Festival. It is a wishful piece referring to the traditions of Ukraine, Belarus and eastern Poland. “We hope that it will be an excuse to say a good word to others. That its melody will accompany you around Christmas and giving you faith and hope for a better future.

Dagadana includes Daga Gregorowicz (vocals, electronics), Dana Vynnycka (vocals, piano, accordeon, hulusy), Mikołaj Pospieszalski (double bass, bass, synthesizers, violin), and Bartosz Mikołaj Nazaruk (drums). Guest: Alena Kadanova (vocals).

Wardruna

Norwegian band Wardruna is celebrating Winter Solstice with the third single, “Andvevarljod,” from its forthcoming 2021 album Kvitravn.

Paul Winter

Jazz and world music saxophonist Paul Winter has announced a special version of his traditional Winter Solstice concerts. For the 41st Annual Winter Solstice Celebration, “we have embraced an entirely new form: a video retrospective of iconic performances from our “Solstice Saga” of the past 40 years.” This 2.5 hour concert film is now available as a video on-demand at solsticeconcert.com. This will be available to watch through spring of 2021.

Tania Saleh and Dina El Wedidi

In cooperation with Edward Said Conservatory of Music (Palestine), Norwegian record label KKV has arranged two live stream concerts from Cairo. With Tania Saleh the 27th of December at 21:00 CET and with Dina El Wedidi the 28th of December at 21:00 CET. The band playing with both artists are: Sherif Alaa (guitar), Mounir Maher (bass), Mostafa Kerdani (drums), Abd El Azeem Barhoma (percussion) and Reda El Said (saxophone). the concerts will be available online or by phone: Tania Salehs Concert Dina El Wedidis Concert.

David Broza & Friends

That same day, David Broza & Friends’ 25th Anniversary “Not Exactly Christmas Show” will take place at 8:00 p.m. (EST) in front of a private audience at the City Winery in New York City. Israeli singer-songwriter David Broza will be joined by his Cuban band plus several special guests. Tickets Available Here
