Monkey Week and the SGAE Foundation Celebrate Transatlantic Flamenco Roundtrip Songs

The Monkey Week SON Estrella Galicia influential showcase and the SGAE Foundation in Spain have teamed up in pursuit of artistic creativity with an exclusive show titled “Cruzando el charco: Cantes de ida y vuelta” (Crossing the Pong: Roundtrip Songs). This show brings together six songwriters and musicians for such a special occasion in three unique duos: Álvaro Romero (RomeroMartín) & Bronquio; Rosario La Tremendita & Mopa; and Dandy Piranha (Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Kachimba) & Sebastián Orellana (La BIG Rabia).

The concert will be broadcast this Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 9:25 p.m. (Central European Standard Time) through Monkey Week TV, available online and free of charge on the festival’s YouTube and Twitch channels, as well as its own website.

“Cruzando el charco: Cantes de ida y returned” aims to show in a brief and pleasant way the close relationship between Latin America and Spain in the flamenco genre, through roundtrip cantes (flamenco songs that traveled between Spain and the Americas).

Flamenco singer Álvaro Romero & rock musician Bronquio will perform the “Cabal de Silverio” and the “Colombiana de Pepe Marchena.”

Flamenco vocalist and bassist Rosario La Tremendita & Mopa will present the Milonga of La Niña de Antequera “Mujercita sevillana” and the Guajira del Mochuelo “Los Encantes.”

Dandy Piranha, singer of psychedelic flamenco rock band Derby Motoreta’s Burrito Kachimba, and Chilean vocalist Sebastián Orellana will showcase Roberto Parra’s cueca “El afuerino” and a bolero version of “Dos cruces” by Antonio Molina.
