Spirited Venezuelan Plains Music in Spanish and Pumé

Canto Pumé En La Música Llanera (Centro Nacional del Disco, 2013)

Canto Pumé En La Música Llanera presents the vivacious music of the Venezuelan plains performed by musicians from the region. The vocals are provided by indigenous artist Alberto Ruiz, who intends to preserve the Pumé indigenous language, which is an endangered language. The Pumé are also known as Yayuro. It is an indigenous community that lives in the savanna grasslands of Venezuela called the Llanos.

The styles featured on Canto Pumé En La Música Llanera include guacharacas, zumbas and periqueras. The lyrics are in Spanish and Pumé.

Venezuelan música llanera (plains music) is characterized by the use of the harp. In this case, the ensemble features Alberto Ruiz on vocals and harp; Emides Zambrano on harp and maracas; and Omar Moreno Gil on cuatro guitar, bass and vocals.
