The Mystical Persian Beauty of Parissa and Ensemble Dastan

Parissa & Ensemble Dastan ‎– Shoorideh (Network Medien, 2003)

Parissa is one of Iran’s greatest vocalists. This double album was recorded with the famed Dastan Ensemble, a group of superb instrumentalists.

Each CD flows as a single piece showcasing Parissa’s talent as a captivating singer, using various modes, inspired by the Sufi poetry of Rumi and other Persian mystics:  Hafiz, Saadi, and Attar. The ensemble uses a wide range of Persian string and percussion instruments, including mesmerizing frame drums.

The CD booklet includes the lyrics and biographies of all the artists in English, German and French.

The lineup includes Parissa on vocals; Hossein Behroozinia on barbat (lute); Saeed Farajpouri on kamanche (fiddle); Pejman Hadadi on tonbak (goblet drum) and pendariq (large frame drum); Hamid Motebassem on tar (long-necked lute); and Behnam Samani on daff (large frame drum), dayreh (medium-sized frame drum with jingles) and damman (two sided drum).
