Splendid Oud and Orchestra

Joseph Tawadros – Live at the Sydney Opera House (ABC Classics, 2020)

Egyptian-Australian oud master Jospeh Tawadros has recorded a sublime live album with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Benjamin Northey and Egyptian percussion by James Tawadros.

It is no wonder that Joseph Tawadros has won three ARIA Awards (the Australian equivalent to the American Grammy) in the world music field. He is a masterful performer and composer who extracts memorable and innovative sounds from the oud, the Arabic lute.

Live at the Sydney Opera House brings together Arabic, western classical and jazz elegantly. It is a wondrous cinematic experience full of excitement.

The lineup includes Joseph Tawadros on oud; James Tawadros on riqq and bendir, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra directed by Benjamin Northey.
