The Legendary Ingramettes – Take a Look in the Book (Virginia Folklife Program, 2020)
The Legendary Ingramettes is an African American gospel group led by women based in Richmond, Virginia. It was founded by Maggie Ingram, modeled after the male quartets of the 1940s and 50s. Maggie Ingram passed away in 2015 and the group continues on, led by her daughter Almeta Ingram-Miller. Take a Look in the Book is The Legendary Ingramettes’ first album after Maggie Ingram’s passing.
On Take a Look in the Book, The Legendary Ingramettes deliver passionate gospel and Piedmont blues featuring powerful lead vocals and stirring harmonies, backed by an excellent rhythm section, giving the listener a taste of the group’s rousing live performances.
The Legendary Ingramettes includes Rev. Almeta Ingram-Miller on vocals; Cheryl Marcia Yanvey on vocals; Carrie Ann Jackson on vocals; Harvey Stuart Hamlin on keyboards; Calvin “Kool Aid” Curry on bass; Randall D. Kort on drums; and Jared Pool on guitar.
