Diego El Cabrillero

Diego Amaya Núñez, better known as Diego El Cabrillero (Diego, the Goatherder , was born in Utrera (Sevilla), in 1944. He’s the son of La Cabrillera, a singer known for her bulerias. Diego El Cabrillero specializes in soleares, siguiriyas, bulerías por soleá, tonás, fandangos and tarantos. He’s the nephew of Antonio Núñez “El Chocolate” and his voice and musical style are very similar.

Diego “El Cabrillero” learned about Flamenco from his uncle, El Chocolate, and other Utrera cantaores like Fernando and Fernanda de Utrera, Gaspar de Utrera and El Perrate.

At an early age, he started participating in Flamenco festivals, where he won numerous prizes. Despite a long career as a cantaor, he didn’t record any albums until 1993.
