Artist Profiles: Galina Durmushliyska

Galina Durmushliyska is a major star in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian National Radio Archive contains over 110 recordings of her work and she has twice had songs of hers voted by audiences of the Bulgarian National Radio as the best song of the year.

In addition she has also had a biographical TV film called Rodena pod zwezdite (Born beneath the Stars) made about her life and various other TV films about her have been made; for instance as a result of her tours through Bessarabia, or to mark the occasion of a new recording.

Galina specialises in a delicate style of singing, so typical of the Dobrudzha region, characterised by its very fine vibrato and tenderness and she is arguably the finest exponent of this style and as a result is recognized as the New Nightingale of Dobrudzha.

Galina has worked with many distinguished Bulgarian composers and musicians to include: Theodosii Spassov, Georgi Andreev, Peter Krumov, Kosta Kolev, Kristyo Dimov, Alexander Raichev, Binka Dobreva, Danislav Kehajov, Georgi Germanov and many others.

On her ARC album she is accompanied by the famous kaval player Theodosii Spassov and the Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra.
