Ensemble Bulgari

Bulgari is known for its innovative performances of dance songs and from all six regions of Bulgaria: Thrace, Shopluka, Pirin, Rodopi, Dobrodja and Northwest Bulgaria. The ensemble conveys to audiences the authentic sound of village life and the unique virtuosity of highly trained musicians. Bulgari has been enthusiastically received in Bulgaria and on two tours of the United States, performing at venues such as the Kennedy Center. UCLA, and Duke University. With both lyrical song and high energy dance Bulgari appeals to audiences of all ages.

The members of Bulgari are masters and recognized soloists of their respective instruments – gajda (bagpipe), kaval (flute), gadulka (vertical fiddle), and tambura (long-necked lute) – and the amazing vocal techniques that have made Bulgarian music famous worldwide.

The ensemble: Georgi Doichev, gajda. One of Bulgaria’s premier bagpipe players, he was for many years principal soloist with the Bulgarian National Ensemble Philip Koutev.

Radostina Kaneva, a leading singer from Thrace for the past eight years. She is a soloist of the Bulgarian National Radio and Television.

Georgi Andreev, gadulka. Currently a director of the orchestra of the Bulgarian National Ensemble Philip Koutev.

Neli Andreeva, a singer from the Rhodope mountain region. She is a soloist in the Bulgarian National Ensemble Philip Koutev.

Georgi Zheliazkov, kaval and singer. Soloist of the Bulgarian National Ensemble Philip Koutev.

Anton Tsambov, tambura. He has been a soloist at the Bulgarian National Ensemble Philip Koutev

Bulgari sometimes performs with 4 dancers: Stanislav Ivanov of Asenovgrad (Thrace), Rosi Ivanova of Rusen (northern Bulgaria), Velko Iovkov of Septembri (Thrace) and Krasi Metodieva of Sofia. They are all graduates of Sofia’s National High School for Art and Choreography and soloists with the Bulgarian National Ensemble Philip Koutev.
