Adventure Music: 10 Years (Adventure Music, 2012)

This triple CD compilation is the perfect opportunity to discover the artists on one of the most exciting labels dedicated to Brazilian jazz, world music crossovers, and mandolin focused Mike Marshall releases. Adventure Music: 10 Years celebrates the label’s 10 years of existence. It was selected by singer-songwriter Monday Michiru.

“A super collection of tracks picked up from the vast Adventure Music catalogue, it was hard for me to believe how much music has been recorded by this little known but potent label,” says Monday Michiru. “From core Brazilian artists, both of modern and traditional styles, to interesting new collectives from the U.S. and other parts of South America, the bar in quality of music and sound is set high and will no doubt amaze and entice you to further explore Adventure’s offerings.”

Indeed the label, created by Richard Zirinsky Jr. and Mike Marshall in 2002, has uncovered many new artists that were practically unknown in the United States and beyond. Although a majority of the musicians on Adventure Music are some Brazil’s finest virtuoso jazz and world music musicians, you can also find great acts from the United States, Colombia and Argentina as well as impressive crosscultural collaborations such as the Mike Marshall & Darol Anger with Väsen recordings.

The attractively packaged triple CD costs less than $20 so it’s well worth getting a copy to sample a taste of Adventure Music’s delectable musical offerings.
