Daybreak (Compass Records, 2011)
Young singer-songwriter and mandolinist Sierra Hull has become of the great sensations in contemporary bluegrass music. DaybreakSecrets. Despite her talent as an instrumentalist, Daybreak focuses on traditional and contemporary bluegrass songs, western swing and gospel; although there is also room for some of her fine mandolin solos.
The song selection includes pieces written by Hull and some of her favorite songwriters such as Kevin McClung, John Pennell, and Shawn Lane. “Over the last few years, Kevin McClung has become one of my favorite songwriters,” says Sierra. “He wrote the title cut from my debut album, Secrets. When I heard this song on a demo he sent me about a year and a half ago, it really struck me as a song I could relate to, and I felt like it would be a perfect opening track for Daybreak.”
Union Station’s bassist, Barry Bales produced Daybreak and he brought some of the best talent in the bluegrass scene to join Sierra.
