Sudanese artist Sulaf has released ‘Shogi Ana’, the second single from her upcoming debut album Aba. Performed in Arabic, Aba is a modern album rooted in Sudanese musical traditions. It combines Nubian folk influences, blues-influenced rhythms and other elements. The album also incorporates verses by Sulaf’s great-grandfather, Abdelazim Sayed Ahmed, known as Aba, a Sufi poet and musician. His writings about family ties, separation, and reunion serve as a central influence on the project, which Sulaf developed during a period of exile.
‘Shogi Ana’ continues the album’s exploration of poetry and spiritual reflection. The track opens with a subdued vocal performance before layered harmonies and atmospheric effects gradually join in.
Sulaf says: “Who are the ‘best of people’ in today’s world, a world full of questions? Whenever I sing ‘Shogi Ana’, I hear my mother’s soft voice humming it while going through her everyday moments. The song feels connected to home, memory, and a kind of warmth that stays with us. For me, it carries more than longing. It carries a longing for goodness, for meaningful people, and for a world where kindness is still visible. In a time full of questions, it makes me wonder: who are the true ‘best of people,’ and how can we become one of them? Its wish to ‘see the light across lands and witness goodness clearly’ feels like a reminder that what we long for is also what we can try to create.”
