CAP UCLA to Present Prominent World Music Acts in Fall 2023

UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance is set to present three international musical performances this September and October.

Upcoming performances include:

Ethiocolor | September 29 at 8 p.m. | This 9-member ensemble draws deeply from the bardic well of Ethiopia’s 2000-year-old Azmari culture, sharing an ecstatic symbiosis of dance and music as well as ancient roots and modernity with its audience.

Dreamers’ Circus | October 13 at 8 p.m. | A youthful, driving force in Nordic world music, this trio offers inventive recreations of the deep traditions of folk music from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and the far reaches of the windswept Faroe Islands; transforming these regions’ musical origins into melodies entirely their own.

Wu Man | October 15 at 7 p.m. | A founding member of the Silkroad Ensemble, this performer presents remarkable talents and exceptional inventiveness in the traditional Chinese music space, playing a pipa with contemporary techniques.

All three shows will be held at The Nimoy, formerly known as The Crest Theatre, CAP UCLA’s cultural landmark venue that has been renovated and transformed into a flexible 300-seat off-campus performing arts space.
