Budapest Ritmo Festival in April 2023 promotes a four-day exploration of music, featuring stops in countries like Egypt, Iceland, Mali, Ukraine, and Spain, among others. With performers like Emilíana Torrini & The Colorist Orchestra, Tamikrest, and Mazaher, attendees can expect an exciting journey. The Kollár-Klemecz Chamber Orchestra, local favorites, and emerging regional artists will add flavor to the event from April 12 to April 15.
Besides the music and film programs, this year’s Ritmo Conference will delve into the transformative power of music in conflict, hardship, urban and social change, as well as our mental and physical health. As the festival’s motto goes, “Tradition brings revolution.”
Budapest Ritmo, a world music event within the framework of Bartók Spring International Arts Week, has a unique opening scheduled at the House of Music on April 12. The evening will feature two performances inspired by heritage: local Gnawa ensemble Tariqa will perform first, followed by Mazaher, the last living performers of the zar tradition, setting a wonder-filled tone for the festival.
The festival’s main stages, Akvárium Klub and Erzsébet Square, will host four stages and a vast array of music from April 14 to April 15. The festival’s performers include Emilíana Torrini & The Colorist Orchestra, Tamikrest, Dagadana, and Vocal Sampling, among others.
Ritmo will also showcase documentaries and music-inspired shorts. “The Female Voices of Iran” and “Taarka” are among the featured films. Attendees can also learn about klapa, Dalmatian polyphonic singing, through “The Sounds That Made Us” series.
