Various Artists – World Music from Slovakia: Best of 2016-2018
The civil association AMITY, WOMUSK and the World Music Festival Bratislava released this compilation titled “World Music from Slovakia: Best of 2016-2018.” Their shared goal is to bolster and publicize the Slovak world music scene, highlighting artists who perform traditional and contemporary forms of folk and roots music.
The album, handpicked by Hudby sveta_FM’s music editor, Vladimír “Potkan” Potančok, contains 19 songs. This wasn’t a simple undertaking, given the plethora of exceptional albums produced in Slovakia in recent years. Banda, Štefan Štec and Ľudová hudba Hornád, Balkansambel, Bashavel, Katarína Máliková, Rusín Čendeš Orchestra, AMC trio and Stan Baláž’s folk music, Miriam Kaiser Trio, Nebeská muzika, Ľubomír Gašpar Cimbal Project, Ľudové Mladistvá, Alapastel, Mojše Band, Sisa Fehér, Vladko Mikláš, Pressburger Klezmer Band, and others made the final cut.
This sizable volume is a testament to the burgeoning Slovak scene, featuring both new and established performers. The compositions showcase the variety and artistic caliber of Slovak world music production in recent years. The representative CD was employed for promotional purposes overseas, where WOMUSK representatives routinely champion Slovak music at a range of festivals, expos, and showcase performances.
