The mini-album “The Malfoof Collective” explores the combination of traditional Black Sea coast music and modern street culture. The album features a mix of traditional musical instruments and modern techniques, resulting in a distinct form of world music. The 4 songs on the album are in various Kavkaz dialects and languages.
The album was recorded live and features a combination of traditional instruments, such as samplers, drum machines, and synthesizers. It showcases functional music from the everyday person and encompasses the instruments, scales, melodies, urban singing styles, colors, and rhythms that have endured despite the changing music industry. The music is rooted in family traditions, weddings, homes, and neighborhoods.
The project is a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist and composer-producer LennyTunes and vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Shalom Mor. The two embarked on a 3-year journey, connecting with immigrants from various backgrounds, to preserve and study traditional songs and their original pronunciations before they disappear from modern culture. LennyTunes has previously worked with notable musicians such as Simge, Riff Cohen, Avishai Cohen.
