Indian and Western Classical Music to Meet in a Landmark New Opera in Leeds

Orpheus will bring together Indian classical and Western baroque music in a way that’s never been heard before at Leeds Grand Theatre on Friday, 14 October 2022. This is a collaboration between Opera North and South Asian Arts-uk.

Opera North and SAA-uk have established parallel cultures of excellence and innovation in their respective traditions. These traditions meet in on common ground in a large-scale opera, with an ensemble of some of the most talented musicians and singers working in each sphere.

Monteverdi’s 1607 opera, based on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, is relocated to a wedding party in a modern British garden, its themes of love, loss and longing more resonant than ever.
