Ayarkhaan – Sparkling rhythms (Ayarkhaan, 2016)
Ayarkhaan (АЙАРХААН) is a long-established female vocal group from Sakha, a republic of Yakutia in Russia. Albina Degtyareva created the group in 2002.
The group specializes in the art of the playing the khomus, a metal jaw harp. Using khomus and throat singing, Ayarkhaan emulate the sounds of animals, birds and nature. The group’s compositions are inspired by a an ancient tradition that has been handed down for centuries.
For years, Ayarkhaan have led the revival and preservation of the traditional music of Sakha. Ayarkhaan brought back nearly forgotten singing styles such as khabarha yryata and tangalai yryata. This is traditional music with a rock musician attitude.
