Delightful Flute recreations of Argentine Folk Music

Carla Campopiano – Chicago-Buenos Aires Connections Vol. 2 (Carla Campopiano, 2020)

Argentine flute virtuosa Carla Campopiano has rearranged and recreated various musical pieces rooted in Argentine folk music on the album Chicago – Buenos Aires Connections Vol. 2. Carla uses charming flute overdubs, creating captivating flute layers and interplay.

Although most of the pieces are instrumental, vocalist Alba Guerra appears on two tracks. Sadly, she passed away after the album sessions.

Throughout the album, Carla is accompanied by percussionist Gustavo Cortiñas and various other guest artists.  The Argentine musical styles include milonga porteña, zamba, tango, vals and nocturna. Carla and her colleagues incorporate jazz forms that masterfully intertwine with the folk melodies.

Carla Campopiano was born in Argentina and currently lives in the United States, where she works as a tango musician and educator.

The lineup includes Carla Campopiano on flutes; Gustavo Cortiñas on drums and percussion; Gabriel Datcu on guitar; Zac Selissen on guitar; Kitt Lyles on bass; and Alba Guerra on vocals.
