WOMEX Digital Showcases Thursday, October 22

WOMEX, the largest conference for world music and beyond, will present its first set of showcases today, October 22, 2020. This year’s edition is virtual. All times listed are Central European Standard Time (CEST).

Stage Left:

The night in South Korea, with a hefty shot of progressive rock, while the journey continues to combine folk music, Zulu rock, Xhosa funk, maskandi, jazz, and the spiritual energy of South African choir Urban Village.

The show will keep going with singer, songwriter and pianist Bára Zmeková of the Czech Republic and we close the night with a bang with a performance from electronic dance act MC Yallah & Debmaster.

Stage Right:

Two duos and two quintets will take to the virtual stage in this Showcase Session. They represent the vocal and instrumental talents from Malawi, bring to life the heritage of Mexican marimba music. The show also includes ethereal Icelandic expanses and Slovak traditional music combined with improvisational jazz:

Each Virtual Showcase will feature musical material followed by a short Q&A with the artists or artist representatives.
