The Tune – Wandering Melodic Road (Mirrrorball Music, 2016)
South Korea has a very diverse music scene with a large number of excellent female performers who are playing a leading role in the development of music grounded in tradition. The Tune is an all-female ensemble that uses traditional Korean vocals, percussion, string and wind instruments along with modern keyboards, presenting a fantastic new form of Asian world music fusion.
Wandering Melodic Road features enchanting, dramatic and ironic vocals; mysterious gongs; spoken word; jazz-influenced keyboards and vocals; global percussion and much more.
The group is led by Lee Soung Soon on Korean traditional percussion (janggu drum and kkwaenggwari gong) and vocals. The rest of the ensemble includes Go hyun kyung on lead vocals, kalimba and bara (cymbal); Lee Yu Jin on electric piano; and Sung Hyun Goo on percussion.
Guests include Lee Hye-in on piano; Park Chwi Im on haegeum (traditional fiddle); and Park Sang Hyun on didgeridoo.
