Artist Profiles: Rajendra Vaishampayan

Rajendra Vaishampayan

Rajendra Vaishampayan is a samvadini (harmonium) player from India. Rajendra is a disciple of Pt. Manohar Chimote.

Pt. Chimote, inspired by his guru Pt. Bhishmadev Vediji, made some modifications in standard harmonium to make it suitable to solo performances in Indian Classical instrumental style. Rajendra’s life mission is to continue popularizing Samvadini solo performances, mission that his guruji initiated.

Samvadini is a modified version of standard harmonium modified by adding a string board(swaramandal) and tuning the instrument to the natural scale suitable to Indian Classical music. Pt. Manohar Chimote gave a style and appropriate name to the instrument as “Samvadini”.

“My life mission is to continue popularizing Samvadini solo performances, mission that my guruji initiated.”
