Mariene de Castro

Singer and dancer Mariene Bezerra de Castro, better known as Mariene de Castro, was born in Salvador da Bahia on May 12, 1978 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. She specializes in nordestino (Northeastern) Brazilian styles such as ijexa, maracatu, embolada samba and samba-de-roda, adapting them to her own musical language.

She has been performing since she was 15. Her first solo performance was in 1997 in the beautiful Pelourinho district of Salvador. Her performance attracted the attention of French producers who invited her to tour France.

Back in Salvador, she performed at the top venues in the Bahian capital. She returned to Europe in 2001, performing in Italy.

Mariene performed at the 2016 Rio Olympics closing ceremony with the song “Pelo Tempo Que Durar” in front of the Olympic Flame before it was extinguished.
