Festival on the Niger 2010 Program Announced

The 2010 Festival on the Niger will be held once again in Ségou, Mali. The sixth edition will begin Wednesday, February 3 of 2010 and will run until Sunday, February 7.  World music will be one of the highlights of the festival with concerts by stars of Mali and West Africa who perform on the Niger river: Salif Keita, Baaba Maal, Habib Koité, Nahawa Doumbia and others. The festival will also feature traditional shows from the region with music, dances, masks, traditional puppets, traditional hunters’ spectacle, and canoe race.

In addition, there will be conferences, art exhibits, workshops, craft and agriculture fairs, and other events. For those interested in sightseeing, there wil be guided tours: Sekoro (Old Ségou), the artisanal pottery village of Kalabougou, M’Peba (the village of Monzon Diarra) and Teriyabougou Supportive Tourism.
