Fado Icon Mariza Wins WOMEX 2014 Artist Award

World Music Expo (WOMEX) announced today that Portuguese fado vocalist Mariza is the winner of the WOMEX 2014 Artist Award.

Since her first album Fado em Mim (2002), Mariza has become known as the most representative living performer of Portuguese fado, as well as the most cutting-edge and innovative in the style.

Her discography includes Fado Curvo (World Connection, 2002), Transparente (EMI, 2005), Concerto em Lisboa (2006), Terra (Earth) (Four Quarters Records, 2008), and Fado Tradicional (2010)

Mariza will receive the WOMEX 2014 Artist Award for bringing fado to new levels of international recognition. Mariza will also be performing a special Award-winner concert as part of the Awards Ceremony to close WOMEX for another year.
