Luz de la Noche – Light of the Night (Adventure Music, 2011)
Luz de la Noche – Light of the Night is a hard to classify album by Argentine singer-songwriter, guitaristand composer Florencia Ruiz. It’s a delightful recording of short poetic songs of love, loss and nostalgia, featuring Ruiz’s beautiful ethereal vocals along with some of Argentina’s finest session musicians and guest appearances by renowned Brazilian cellist Jaques Morelenbaum and Uruguayan trailblazer Hugo Fattoruso.
The musical director is composer and keyboardist Carlos Villavicencio, who arranged and directed the project. The result is a delectable mix of pieces with various flavors, ranging from Argentine folk and tango to jazz, electronica and rock.
Florencia Ruiz is a well-known singer in Argentina, Mexico and Japan. She was born in Buenos Aires in 1977. She studied guitar, bandoneon and composition at Argentina’s reputable Morón Conservatory.
She composes songs as well as music for exhibitions and art installations. Her discography includes Centro (2000), Cuerpo (2003), Correr (2005), Fogón (2006), Mayor (2007), and Luz de la noche (2011). She also recorded Ese impulso superior with Argentine rock musician Ariel Minimal (Pez, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Flopa Manza Minimal, La Luz).
