Talabarte (Fol, 2011)

Talabarte is a contemporary folk music ensemble from Galicia, in northwestern Spain. The trio includes some of the finest instrumentalists in the area and they combine Galician folk music with contemporary elements such as jazz and global sounds.

The trio includes Berrogüetto’s fiddler Quim Fariña; Marful’s accordionist Pedro Pascual and susana Seivane’s bassist, Kim García.

Talabarte is the ensemble’s debut album. The original pieces incorporate traditional dances such as jotas, valsesand melodies from Galicia, jazz expression, and the world music sounds of tango and Balkan music.

Talabarte is an exquisitely crafted album by some of the most talented contemporary folk musicians in Galicia.

Angel Romero y Ruiz has dedicated his life to musical exploration. His efforts included the creation of two online portals, worldmusiccentral.org and musicasdelmundo.com. In addition, Angel is the co-founder of the Transglobal World Music Chart, a panel of world music DJs and writers that celebrates global sounds. Furthermore, he delved into the record business, producing world music studio albums and compilations. His works have appeared on Alula Records, Ellipsis Arts, Indígena Records and Music of the World.
