Songs that reflect everyday experiences often connect with listeners, and Puerto Rico’s Fernandito Rentas aims to continue that tradition with his new single, “Gato Encerrado.”
The singer’s latest release centers on themes of betrayal, warning, and personal awakening. Written by Edgardo Irizarry, the song tells the story of a loyal friend who tries to alert a man to the deception of his partner. The title references the popular Spanish-language expression (hay gato encerrado – literally, locked up cat) used to suggest that something suspicious lies beneath the surface.
“Gato Encerrado” features contributions from several established musicians. Robert Requena handled the musical arrangements, while recording took place at SANZ REC. STUDIOS in Medellín, Colombia, with Jaihro Sanz as recording engineer.
The single also includes performances by two Venezuelan musicians with international credentials. Daniel Silva, former bassist of Grupo Niche, plays bass on the recording. In addition, Josmer Yulien, current timbalero and drummer for Oscar D’León International Orchestra, played percussion.
