Rodrigo y Gabriela Team With Naoki Urasawa for New “Monster” Video

Rodrigo y Gabriela have released the video for their new single, “Monster,” which features original artwork by acclaimed Japanese manga creator Naoki Urasawa.

The track serves as the first preview of the duo’s upcoming album OurHome. Urasawa created the video after learning that the composition was inspired by his celebrated manga series Monster.

Known for works including Monster, 20th Century Boys, Pluto, and Master Keaton, Urasawa has sold more than 140 million copies of his books worldwide. According to the duo, the song draws inspiration from the psychological themes explored in Monster and is one of the darker compositions on the upcoming record.

Gabriela Quintero said the band wrote the piece before discovering that Urasawa was a fan. Meanwhile, Urasawa revealed that he had followed Rodrigo y Gabriela for years after first encountering videos of their live performances. After hearing that the song had been inspired by Monster, Urasawa contacted the duo through their Japanese promoter. The connection led to a meeting in Tokyo and eventually to the collaboration.
