Queen Day Introduces Solo Era With Afro-Cuban Single “La Clave”

Cuban percussionist and singer Queen Day has announced the release of her new single, “La Clave.” With this track, Day takes a major step in her solo career after her time with the legendary all-female band Orquesta Anacaona.

Now based in Miami, Queen Day combines Afro-Cuban musical tradition with a contemporary approach. Day is a gifted percussionist and vocalist and “La Clave” brings attention to the rhythmic structure that defines Cuban rumba and much of Afro-Cuban music.

The single highlights the rhythmic variations known as 2×3 and 3×2 clave patterns, which guide syncopation and dance movement within the genre. Through detailed percussion work and expressive lyrics, the composition explores both the technical and emotional dimensions of the clave tradition.

In addition, the release pays tribute to the generations of musicians who preserved Afro-Cuban musical forms throughout decades.

“The music is my essence, percussion is my voice, and the stage is my home,” Queen Day said in a statement.
