Folklore(s) Festival to Present Workshops and Nordic-Iberian intersections

The Folklore(s) Festival will continue on Friday, May 29, 2026, with a program that shifts from education to live performance.

First, the influential Escuela de Música Creativa will host an open classroom session dedicated to its official Master’s Degree in Iberian Peninsula Folklore Performance. Designed for musicians and enthusiasts, the session will outline the structure of the program, its subjects, and its training approach. In addition, attendees will take part in a practical workshop led by Joaquín Sánchez, Alba Chacón, and Carlos Beceiro, offering a hands-on introduction to Iberian traditional repertoire.

Later, the focus will shift to Sala Galileo Galilei for a double concert featuring Iberika Baraka and a headline collaboration between Groupa and Carlos Beceiro. The evening will open with Iberika Baraka, the folklore ensemble of the Centro Superior Música Creativa. Formed by eleven performers, the ensemble revisits traditional Spanish dances such as jotas, seguidillas, and verdiales through contemporary arrangements, layered vocals, and rhythmic interplay.

Groupa

Afterward, Groupa and Vanesa Muela will present Kind of Folk: Iberia, a meeting point between Nordic and Iberian traditions. With more than three decades of experience, Sweden’s Groupa is a key reference in contemporary Scandinavian folk, known for its collective approach and improvisational language. In contrast, Vanesa Muela brings a deep connection to Iberian oral tradition, combining research, vocal performance, and traditional percussion.
