Matt Wallace returns with “Midnight Fire,” a spirited new single released on Huckleberry Records. Originally recorded by Steve Wariner in the 1980s, the song is reinterpreted here with a bluegrass edge, featuring Wallace on lead vocals and bass. He is joined by Alex Hibbitts (harmony vocals, mandolin), Ron Stewart (banjo, fiddle), and Brian Stephens (guitar), forming a seasoned ensemble that delivers a faithful yet fiery rendition.
While the track retains the heart of traditional bluegrass, it also channels the emotional intensity of its country origins. According to Wallace, “As a fan of ’80s country music, Steve Wariner is a favorite artist of mine. This is just one of those songs I heard and thought it would be a terrific bluegrass song with lots of mean banjo.”
Huckleberry Records’ Rebekah Speer praised the release, noting, “This song is pure Matt, full of passion, grit, and musical fire.”
Influenced by genre pioneers like Jimmy Martin, Flatt & Scruggs, and the Bluegrass Cardinals, Wallace is known for his traditional sound and authentic storytelling. His ongoing contributions help bridge the gap between bluegrass heritage and modern interpretation, reinforcing his status as a dynamic force within the genre.
