International Castanets Competition Returns to Madrid with Teresa Laiz

The International Castanets Competition (Concurso Internacional de Castañuelas), founded by castanet master and concert artist Teresa Laiz, is Spain’s first and only competition dedicated to promoting and preserving the art of castanets. The event features three categories: Concert Performance, Accompaniment, and Composition.

The semifinals will take place at Teatro Flamenco Madrid on Sunday, February 23, and Sunday, March 23, showcasing selected performers from various countries. A jury will select four finalists—two for Concert Performance and two for Accompaniment—along with a Composition winner.

The final round will be held the following day in Toledo, where the top contestants will compete for the grand prize. During the jury’s deliberation, Jenaro Sosa, winner of the competition’s second edition, will perform.

The event is part of the 11th International Castanets Festival (F.I.C.), directed by Teresa Laiz.
