Wide Open”: Mason Via’s New Single Channels Southern Roots and Young Heartbreak

Mason Via‘s latest release, “Wide Open,” offers a nostalgic American roots journey through the southern landscapes of Patrick Springs, Virginia, mixing personal memories with relatable heartbreak. Co-written by Via and Zach John King, this track captures iconic imagery like campfires, screen doors, and sunsets over pastures, drawing listeners into the warmth of rural life.

The song’s rich instrumentation presents an ensemble of skilled musicians: Mason Via on lead vocals and guitar; Aaron Ramsey on mandolin; Jason Davis on banjo; Jim Van Cleve on fiddle; Jeff Partin on bass and resophonic guitar; Kyser George on second guitar; and harmony vocals by Brooks Forsyth and Nick Goad.

Via shared, “The song chronicles the singer’s emotional state as he reaches back into his memory to recall how much he loved the girl who has left him, and how much her absence has cut him to the core. The song ends as he searches for a cure by visiting an old friend who tries to get him drunk to forget, but even the liquor couldn’t help.”
