Arthur Smith and Don Reno – Feudin’ Again (CMH Records, 1979/2024 digital reissue)
CMH Records is set to release the 1979 bluegrass classic Feudin’ Again by Arthur Smith and Don Reno on digital and streaming platforms for the first time on October 18, 2024. Known for preserving the rich heritage of country and bluegrass music, CMH has remastered this timeless album as part of its ongoing efforts to bring legacy releases into modern formats.
Feudin’ Again presents the talents of two bluegrass pioneers, Arthur Smith and Don Reno, who reunited for this 12-track instrumental collection. The album features well-loved standards such as “Hello Dolly,” “Over the Rainbow,” and “Sheik of Araby,” along with two Arthur Smith originals,”Follow Me Boogie” and “Chicken.” The standout closing track, “12th Street Rag,” is a high-energy ragtime performance that highlights the duo’s skillful interplay.
One of the album’s tracks, “Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue,” was released on October 4 as a preview ahead of the full album.
Arthur Smith gained renewed fame in 1972 when his composition “Feudin’ Banjos” (originally released in 1955) was featured in the film Deliverance as “Dueling Banjos,” bringing the song back into the spotlight nearly two decades after its debut.
Founded in 1975 by Martin Haerle, CMH Records has been a cornerstone of American roots music, releasing albums from influential artists such as Merle Travis, The Osborne Brothers, and Mac Wiseman. The label remains a family business, now led by Haerle’s son, David, continuing its legacy of releasing iconic and genre-defining music.
