Global Village Radio Show Goes National

Global Village, a KMUW-produced world music show directed and hosted by radio and world music veteran Chris Heim, is now being distributed to public radio stations across the United States through the Public Radio Exchange (PRX). Though just recently launched, the show has already aired on over a dozen stations that touch on some 20 states from Alaska to Connecticut, Minnesota to Texas and through the 21-station Prairie Public Radio system.

Global Village is an eclectic world music-based show that draws on the latest and best in world music new releases and classics, along with music from a wide array of artists in other genres who feature global influences in their work.

Global Village draws on a library of some 40,000 albums, including many out-of-print classics, and the musical knowledge, radio experience and personality of host/producer Chris Heim.

Heim is a radio veteran who worked at Chicago stations WHPK, WJKL, WXRT, and WBEZ. While in Chicago, she started one of the first and longest running world music shows in public radio and was the executive producer and anchor for national broadcasts of the Chicago Jazz, Blues and Latin Music Festivals. She began Global Village in January, 2007 shortly after joining KMUW in Wichita, Kansas.

Also a freelance writer, Heim has written for the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, Jazziz, Jazz Times, Blues Revue, Option and other publications.
