Albita to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 2024 Latin Grammy Awards

Cuban singer and songwriter Albita will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Latin Grammy Awards, recognizing her decades-long contribution to Latin music.

Albita, a two-time Grammy winner and Emmy Award recipient, has significantly influenced the global Hispanic music scene by modernizing traditional Cuban music. Throughout her career, she has garnered 17 award nominations and won numerous accolades, including Cuba’s highest artistic honor, “The Order for National Culture.”

Her popular hits, such as “La Parranda,” “Que Manera de Quererte,” “Chico Chevere,” and “Que Culpa Tengo Yo de Haber Nacido en Cuba,” have cemented her place as a key figure in Cuban music. Beyond her success as a performer, Albita has worked as a producer and actress, participating in major Broadway productions like The Mambo Kings, Havana, and Carmen la Cubana.

Albita’s influence extends beyond music; she was featured in renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz’s book Women in the late 1990s. Known for her vibrant performances, she has collaborated with top figures in the industry, including pianist Chucho Valdés and producer Emilio Estefan.

Albita’s career highlights include hosting the live television show La Descarga con Albita, which earned her an Emmy, and being crowned “The Queen of Carnival” at Miami’s Calle Ocho in 2005. Her ability to mix Cuban roots with modern sounds has made her a trailblazer and cultural ambassador, earning her the recognition of the Latin Recording Academy this year.
