International Flamenco Programmers Arrive in Granada for FlamencoEñe 2024

Thirteen international flamenco programmers and representatives from fourteen festivals, organizations, and institutions will gather in Granada to attend the concerts of FlamencoEñe 2024. This event, organized by the SGAE Foundation in collaboration with the Granada City Council, the Junta de Andalucía, and the Andalusian Flamenco Institute, aims to promote flamenco on an international scale. The showcase will take place from Wednesday, September 11, to Friday, September 13, offering professionals the opportunity to discover emerging Spanish flamenco talent and explore opportunities to promote them internationally.

Among the participants are representatives from three U.S. festivals: the Albuquerque Flamenco Festival, the Flamenco Society of San José, and the New York Flamenco Festival, which also has a London edition. The United Kingdom will also be represented by the International Guitar Foundation in London.

Additionally, Latin American representatives will include Dellarte from Brazil, the Montevideo Flamenco Festival (Uruguay), the Buenos Aires International Flamenco Festival (Argentina), the Santiago a Mil Festival (Chile), and the Mayor Theater of Bogotá (Colombia). European participants will feature representatives from the Czech Republic’s Festival Iberica, Dionysiac Production Booking (France), Luxembourg’s Flamenco Festival Esch, and JazzPlus from Bulgaria.

This is the first time that FlamencoEñe has brought its duende to Granada in an incredible effort by the SGAE Foundation together with its collaborators to open the doors of this art to professionals from all over the world. FlamencoEñe combines a more orthodox offering that supports new flamenco talents, such as Israel Fernández, Diego del Morao and Ángeles Toledano, among many others, with a more avant-garde proposal. A real challenge that allows us to show flamenco programmers from all over the world the quality of the new flamenco artists and the effervescent fusion scene that is taking place in Spain and that always takes longer to fit in outside our country,” explains Juan Carmona, Flamenco coordinator of the SGAE Foundation.

Twelve Concerts Showcasing Contemporary Flamenco

These international representatives will attend twelve concerts scheduled from September 11 to 13, 2024, as part of the Granada es Flamenco 365 cycle, a prelude to the 2025 Granada Flamenco Biennial. The concerts will be held at two venues:

  • The Federico García Lorca Center (Plaza de la Romanilla), featuring traditional flamenco performances starting at 7 p.m., with artists such as Manuel Valencia, Sergio El Colorao, María Mezcle, and others.
  • Planta Baja (Calle Horno de Abada) will host “FlamencoEñe Off,” the fusion and underground section, with performances at 9 p.m., including Clara Incendio, Crudo Pimiento, and others.

FlamencoEñe 2024 also includes two professional meetings on Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Federico García Lorca Center, where artists will connect with the international programmers to discuss potential collaborations. These sessions aim to facilitate the international exposure of flamenco, a key goal for the Andalusian Flamenco Institute.
