Faltriqueira is set to perform at DROM on Sunday, October 6, 2024. This female quintet from Galicia, Spain, takes its name from the Galician word for a hidden pocket beneath a Galician folk dancer’s costume.
The ensemble carries the Celtic heritage of the region into the present. They intertwine modern intricate polyphonic vocals and synthesizers with acoustic instruments and the traditional beats of the pandereteiras, the local female tambourine players. Fellow Galician Ariel Ninas, an award-winning hurdy-gurdy player, will kick off the show with his unique mix of folk melodies and rock energy.
