Tomás Pereila Wins the 2024 International Cante por Peteneras Competition

Approximately two thousand people attended the final of the International Cante por Peteneras Competition in Paterna de Rivera, Spain. They gathered to witness the XLVIII edition’s gala, where Tomás Pereila emerged as the winner. Pereila secured the first prize by presenting his mastery of this flamenco style during both the qualifying round and the grand final held at IES Paterna.

The second prize went to Susana Romero from Vejer, who also won the two first prizes in the free cante categories of the competition. Alberto Sánchez and Manuel Cordero received the third and fourth prizes, respectively.

Vanesa Beltrán, Deputy of Culture of Cadiz, attended the event to witness the flamenco show and later participated in the award ceremony alongside the Mayor of Paterna, Andrés Clavijo, and the Director of the Andalusian Institute of Flamenco, Cristóbal Ortega. The Cádiz Provincial Council was one of the event’s sponsors.

After the competition, a show based on the promotional poster was performed, featuring Mari Lui Pérez as Dolores la Petenera. The final gala concluded with a celebration by Antonio Porcuna ‘El Veneno’, Rocío Luna, and Pedro el Granaíno.
