Afro Celt Sound System will embark on a comprehensive tour across the UK this Autumn, commencing at Islington Assembly Hall on October 9th. This marks the band’s inaugural UK tour without their founder, Simon Emmerson, who passed away in March 2023 after an extended illness. Emmerson, instrumental in the group’s creation, leaves behind a significant legacy. Despite his absence, he advocated for the band’s continuity, having already laid groundwork for their forthcoming album. The album, titled OVA (an abbreviation of “Ovate” and the Afro Celt Symbol), was released in December 2023 in tribute to Emmerson.
Afro Celt Sound System, stalwarts of the contemporary world music scene, are celebrated for their innovative fusion of African, Celtic, and Bhangra influences. Over their 25-year journey, they have amassed over 1.5 million album sales, earned two Grammy nominations, and undertaken extensive global tours.
