Qawwali Royalty: Rizwan-Muazzam’s Latest Album Honors Tradition with a Fresh Voice

Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali – At the Feet of the Beloved (Real World Records, 2025)

Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali, the nephews of the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, return with the sensational At the Feet of the Beloved, a four-track album that continues their commitment to the rich tradition of qawwali while introducing new compositions and lyrical interpretations. Notably, the album, recorded in their home studio in Pakistan, explores themes of love, longing and devotion, combining spiritual and contemporary perspectives.

Brothers Rizwan and Muazzam Ali Khan have been performing since the late 1990s, when Real World Records, Nusrat’s former label, introduced them to international audiences. Over the years, their masterful, passionate and stirring performances have built a global following through acclaimed albums like A Better Destiny and Day of Colours. Furthermore, this international exposure led to performances at major venues, including London’s Barbican and WOMAD festivals across multiple continents.

According to producer and manager Rashid Din, the duo stands out for evolving qawwali rather than merely replicating Nusrat’s legacy. Their latest release includes two Urdu and two Punjabi tracks, one of which is an original composition.

Ahead of the album’s launch, Rizwan-Muazzam Qawwali released Yaar Da Muhallah alongside a live video from Real World Studios. The track exemplifies the group’s signature intensity, with cascading vocals and layered instrumentation that build toward ecstatic release. The group will support the album with a UK and North American tour later in 2025.
