Versatile Flamenco Percussionist and Instrument Designer Nasrine Rahmani

Currently based in Madrid, Spain, Nasrine Rahmani is a professional percussionist specializing in flamenco and Latin percussion.

Born in Australia to a mother from Mauritius and a father from Iran, Nasrine began her studies in African, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban percussion. After completing a degree in Music Performance at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, she began the first of four periods in Cuba to continue her studies in Latin percussion.

With the intention of experiencing a musical culture more in tune with percussion, she decided to immigrate to Spain and eventually specialized in the flamenco cajon. Now, after 25 years of musical career and 15 years living in Madrid, she is recognized as the leading representative of women in flamenco percussion, and appreciated for her delicate accompaniment and her surprising strength in improvisation.

She has accompanied musical figures such as Montse Cortes, Jorge Pardo, Chicuelo, Caramelo de Cuba, Belén López, Karime Amaya, and David de Jacoba, and is a member of the Diego Guerrero and Niño de Elche projects.

Nasrine works closely with the best flamenco cajon makers to promote the instrument, and has designed her own line of “Touch” cymbals in collaboration with the American brand TRX. In 2021, she released “Tú Compas Flamenco,” a 52-track backing album for learning flamenco rhythmic styles. It is being used by a multitude of professional and amateur musicians and dancers, as well as in academies and universities around the world.
