Making Moves by Ghanaian Highlife band Santrofi has reached the number one spot of World Music Charts Europe for the month of March 2025. Co-produced and mixed by four-time Grammy winner Jerry Boys (Buena Vista Social Club, Ali Farka Touré), the album combines traditional Highlife with elements of funk and soul. Tracks like “Amina” highlight Highlife’s groove-driven core, while “Gyae Me How” incorporates boogie influences.
Led by bassist and producer Emmanuel Kwadwo Ofori, Santrofi includes eight accomplished musicians from Accra, with ties to Highlife veterans such as Ebo Taylor and AB Crentsil. The album features collaborations with contemporary Ghanaian artists, including AratheJay, Black Sherif, and Kofi Jamar. The title track, “Making Moves,” mixes Afrobeats with Santrofi’s signature sound, reflecting the energy of Accra’s streets.
Santrofi has performed at major festivals, including Roskilde, WOMAD, and their first U.S. tour, as well as sold-out shows in Japan.
